What is a STORY portrait?

A STORY portrait is not built from fixed poses alone. It follows a woman through expression, clothing, movement, and place, then brings the photographs together as one flowing work.

One woman / One photographic story

The shoot begins with a direction, then leaves room for discovery.

We decide the place, clothing, time of day, and atmosphere together. You do not need to arrive with a finished concept.

The expressions and moments we did not plan can become some of the most important parts of the work.

Who can apply

Experience is not required.

Professional models are welcome, but professional experience is not necessary. Women who have never modeled before may also apply.

Where we photograph

Studio. City. Daily life.

We may stay in one place and work slowly, or move through several locations and connect them into one STORY.

Studio

Light, gaze, posture, and the movement of clothing become a concentrated portrait sequence.

City

Walking, waiting, stopping, entering a shop, or turning back—the city becomes part of the woman’s time in the photographs.

Daily life

A room, a shop, or a street corner. Talking, sitting, getting ready, or looking through a window can create the feeling of a story before and after the frame.

Publication

Photographic work made to be shown.

The photographs we make together will be published as a STORY work or as individual standalone works.

STORY or standalone work

The photographs are selected and finished as photographic work, then presented in the form that best suits them.

Private or promotional photography

Private memory shoots and promotional portraits are also available. If publication is not part of the shoot, please contact me about a paid commission.

From application to shoot

Five simple steps.

The direction becomes clearer through conversation and through the place and day of the shoot.

1. Send the form

Send current photographs and the dates or period when you may be available. Social media or a portfolio is welcome if you have one.

2. Talk by email or message

We discuss the location, clothing, atmosphere, schedule, and the kind of photographs that interest you.

3. Meet first if useful

We may meet in Tokyo before the shoot, or arrange the shooting day directly when the direction is already clear.

4. Photograph the STORY

We work with the agreed direction while remaining open to the expressions, movement, distance, light, and time found on location.

5. Shape the work

The photographs are selected, finished, and brought together as a STORY or as individual standalone works.

FUJIYOSHI has been a professional photographer since 1992, beginning with AXIS and SPA!.

He has held 20 solo photography exhibitions and now works across photography, research, writing, and university teaching while continuing to photograph and exhibit in Tokyo.
